Mood Indigo

Maybe it’s because I’m the mother of 3 boys, cough…young men, that I’m drawn to the color blue. Not to mention their (and my husband’s) school colors over the years! Good thing blue is such a deep and versatile color in the best ways possible. With its spectrum from sky light to inky dark, there’s a shade or two or three that’s flattering to everyone. At the moment, electric blue is on the fashion radar, but it’s a bit too intense for me. I’m more of a navy and dusty blue girl. I believe fashion is about being inspired by a trend and making it your own. So find the shade that suits your mood, the moment, and just be true to your blue.

All About Autumn

It’s finally Fall y’all, and that means colors like merlot (or burgundy or pinot) and mustard (um…don’t have a snappy variation on that) are on the fashion menu. And I think they are all deliciously beautiful. This look mixes ruffles high and low, not to mention my attempt at “ruffling” my hair. But there you go, sometimes you just have to go for it!

Get Away with Gingham

Hope you had a great weekend! We are having the most amazing weather, and we got to enjoy it even more up at our Adirondack cabin. As you can see, it was seriously picture perfect up there. We always try to go to the Sugar House Creamery and stock up on milk, cheese, eggs and whatever looks good from the Farmer’s Market. New item…pumpkin spice scones! Crazy delicious!! We also had a weekend guest who is a dear friend but also a most talented Producer/Director. I was lucky to have her volunteer to be the photog for this post. BTW, SHC has the cutest Airbnb if you want to come up here and see just how special North Country living is.

6 Steps to a Better Night’s Sleep

Studies say that up to 61% of women who are postmenopausal experience frequent bouts of insomnia. For me, sleeplessness started sometime in my early 40s. It kind of goes in waves, depending on my stress level, late dining, too much wine, too much work, ummm…life. At its worst, I’ve gone up to two months without sleeping through the night. Yes, I know there are prescription drugs out there that can help, and I did speak with my internist about them. But in the end, I decided to go for a more holistic approach. I doubt I’ll ever be a “perfect sleeper,” but these 6 steps have helped me a lot. If you experience sleepless nights, I hope some or all of them will help you too!

Falling for Florals

After four straight nights of amazing music, socializing and restaurants, I am racing to post this before midnight. I made two posts a week my goal so here goes. This look starts with this AMAZING dress that costs $36.99! Seriously!! It’s from the always need-to-shop Who What Wear collaboration with Target. Florals are big this Fall but some just look too Spring-y to me. This one is different. And I think it will still look fresh come Spring/Summer, especially with some strappy black sandals.

ASIAN STYLE LUNCH BOWL

I’ve been really busy but doing most of my writing from home. Which also means I’ve been doing most of my “lunching” from home. While I have quite a few tried-and-true go-tos, there are days when I’m craving something new, different, unexpectedly delicious. And so, my Asian Style Lunch Bowl was born. The no-egg version weighs in at around 420 calories. With an egg, it’s around 500 calories.

A warm and fuzzy feeling

This Fall the fur is flying…off the runways and out of the stores. From luxury pelts to fabulous and faux, there is something furry for everyone. For this look I decided to accessorize with a new fave bag and slides, both trimmed in fun faux fur. Can I just say this raffia-and-fur bag is about the cutest thing! And these slides look luxe and feel like you’re walking on pillows. I forgot all about my plantar fascitis!

Going on the Llama!

Is it crazy to build your whole look around a pair of shoes? Not if it’s Shoesday Tuesday! When it came to these llama-detailed velvet sneaks, it was love at first sight for me. But not buy at first sight. I hemmed and hawed for a couple of weeks, then panicked they would sell out. So…a few secs on my Mac, and they were mine. And now we’re together forever, wherever they take me! I mean seriously…are they not the cutest.

Paisley, Please!

Sure everyone is Falling for florals, but paisley is having a moment, too. Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 60s, but paisley is one of my favorite patterns. Especially in autumnal tones like the brown, rust and teal of this dress from the Olivia Palermo Collection for Banana Republic. If ever there was a style icon to emulate, Olivia is it! No matter your age!! And if you agree, run, don’t walk to the BR website and check out this must-have, sure-to-sell-out capsule collection!!! And how about these velvet mules? I’m totally crushing on them.
