Fall 2016: Transitional Pieces

Transitional Dress: I saw this Madewell dress way back in June, but for whatever reason passed on it. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and a shopping stroll in NYC. Because I’m a big fan of End-of-Season sales, I popped into the store on lower Fifth Avenue. And there it was.

img_4201img_4212img_4236img_4241Suddenly, everything about it was perfect: the simple silhouette with a sash-cinched waist and side slits, the not-too-summery off-white color, the lightweight yet still substantial linen blend fabric, the embroidery (a trend that came on strong last Fall and promises to keep going), and the fringed sleeves (yes, another key trend). Quite simply, the total package for now. And for the cooler days ahead with a long sleeved black top underneath and a black leather belt. And come next summer? I’ll love it all over again.

Transitional Accessories: I topped off the look (literally) with my street vendor straw fedora in black (it was almost 90 degrees when we shot this), black peep toe booties (should be on your top 10 must have list), and my beloved Anya Hindmarch tote. It’s made of the supplest leather and finished with fringe. I bought it on outnet.com 3 years ago and while it was a splurge it has held up beautifully. I’m happy every Fall when I pull it out of storage and make it my go-to bag.

We shot this post at an adorable neighborhood eatery called Seven Sheep Coffee . The owner, Luciane, is lovely, lively and a fan of WBGO, so we had lots to bond about. Not to mention she knows Chris and Bowie from their morning walks. Her Iced Hibiscus Tea and delicious cookie saved the day.

Dress: Madewell, in-store and on sale!

Hat: (old, NYC street vendor) // similar here and here

Booties: (old from Paris) //  love these and these

Bag: (old, Anya Hindmarch) but love this and could covet this

Bracelet: old, Monica Vinader. I personalized mine with MYOL (Make Your Own Luck), but everything on her site is lovely. And coming to her Soho store soon.

All photos shot by Lydia Filosa and MP Allegaert on iPhone 6.

  1. Hi Mary-Paula! Spencer invited me to your blog and I absolutely love it! By the way, your Valentinos are TOTALLY justified in my book! 😉
