Fa-la-la Flannel!

I’m thinking this look is the country counterpoint to my last Jersey City post…which was 11 days ago! I have been the busiest over these last almost-2-weeks that I’ve been in a long, long while. A big shoot and edit for a L’Oreal haircare project and a new campaign pitch on another haircare brand. While I do love what I do, I’ve missed posting! We shot this look last weekend, and it’s only now late on the following Friday night that I could sit down and write this post, share these pics. Hope you enjoy!

First of all, this look is the perfect example of shopping my closet…and one of my son’s! (Don’t laugh…I wear Chanler’s snowboarding pants from when he was 12!) So yes, this flannel shirt was originally in a teenage boy’s wardrobe, but now it’s mine.

So let’s start at the top. I LOVE this hat, pun intended. And the fact that the pom-pom looks like a snowball that just landed on my head. Silly? Uh yeah. But what the heck. There’s no better message than love. As previously noted, the flannel shirt was raided from one of my sons. I super love this reversible down vest — leopard and black! — but it’s from C. Wonder, the company founded and dissolved (sob!) by Chris Burch, Tory’s Ex. A serious fashion tragedy in my book. The jeans are old skinnies. The super cute raffia and faux fur bag is just the cutest. Ever. And a great way to carry a summer trend straight into winter. So what’s new? These killer OTK boots. From Stuart Weitzman, my go-to boot guru. On sale! Yay! And with a rubber sole that’s perfect for the Dacks.

So I’m pretty sure you can put your own spin on this combo in the city…or country.  And LOVE it. Let me know!

We took these pics at my absolute favorite Adirondack store, Dartbrook Rustic Goods. I had to run in for some stocking stuffers, as well as a vintage piece of owl art I’ve had my eye on. Luckily it was still there! If you’re discerning, you can see it’s an ward-winning shopping destination. Check out their FB page here for great last minute, rustic holiday gifts.

Be Merry, Be Bright, Be You!

Hello, Holidays! Thanksgiving was just over a week ago. Do you feel like you blinked and one fantastic holiday is now hurtling towards another? I don’t know about you, but this time of year I feel like everything goes into hyper mode. I made a detailed TO DO list today, and guess what, not checking it all off. But while we’re all multi-tasking,  let’s also take a deep breath.  We’ve got time to get it done.

So…this look. So many of my friends have asked me about my closet and if I’m constantly shopping. The answer is complicated. First, I am NOT constantly shopping. I can’t afford to do that! But I do have a very organized walk-in closet in our bedroom, along with a storage unit on our floor (not just for my clothes but for lots of our stuff!). So I only keep in-season clothes (Fall/Winter, Spring/Summer) in my closet at one time. When I do the changeover it’s a perfect time to go through EVERYTHING and keep/sell/giveaway. And this outfit is definitely a “shop my closet” look that I bet you could probably pull together on your own right now. Maybe not exactly, but how about exactly right for you.

Hey…it is kinda the most wonderful time of the year, despite all the crazy and horrible things that are swirling around the news front. So I’m trying to be mindful of all that’s beautiful and not stress about what’s not. So it was fun to shop my closet for this look! Because the time is right!!

I’m in love with this soft and cozy plaid flannel shirt. It’s made for chill temps and chill times. And I will be wearing it a lot over the next few months. I would normally pair it with skinny jeans, but I decided it was time to break out this super cool black denim skirt. I love all its details: frayed edges, flounce detail, midi length. It too has so many possibilities. My red booties are from last year, but guess what, RED is the HOTTEST color of the season. It’s not my favorite, so these boots are the perfect nod — without overhauling my wardrobe. Finishing touches — my go-to black puffer vest (you need one!), monogrammed crossbody bag (love!) and my “let’s stay warm” statement beanie ( so soft and light I never get hat hair).

Speaking of hair…I got mine chopped into a LOB (long bob) and am LOVING it. My super talented Stylist Ilda wanted to do some loose curls. I said “go for it.” What do you think? Long or short? Straight or wavy?? Or…all of the above!

And how adorable is this street art courtesy of South House, A JC favorite.

All About Autumn

It’s finally Fall y’all, and that means colors like merlot (or burgundy or pinot) and mustard (um…don’t have a snappy variation on that) are on the fashion menu. And I think they are all deliciously beautiful. This look mixes ruffles high and low, not to mention my attempt at “ruffling” my hair. But there you go, sometimes you just have to go for it!

Going on the Llama!

Is it crazy to build your whole look around a pair of shoes? Not if it’s Shoesday Tuesday! When it came to these llama-detailed velvet sneaks, it was love at first sight for me. But not buy at first sight. I hemmed and hawed for a couple of weeks, then panicked they would sell out. So…a few secs on my Mac, and they were mine. And now we’re together forever, wherever they take me! I mean seriously…are they not the cutest.

Pom Poms for Peace!

IMG_2401What do you do when you’ve made the bed, thrown in a load of laundry, worked out and are still waiting on the Hubs to get home? How about a little DIY! Since our afternoon plan centered around a local Studio Tour, I guess I felt inspired to do a little something “artistic” with a recent consignment find. In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, this Summer straw/sea grass/rattan/basket bags are all the rage. And Pom Poms! And while I love the looks other Bloggers are rocking, I couldn’t help wanting to put my own spin on a top 2017 trend. And yes, it literally took me minutes. IMG_2385Cute bag I bought at Adirondack Attic for just $12.

IMG_2388Bring on the Pom Poms! I bought 3 boxes of 3 color ways at Kids Made Modern at Target months ago and haven’t stopped playing with them since. This Pom Pom Party box is the perfect way for you to bring your inner DIYer out! And don’t fear the glue gun. Get one. Stat.

IMG_2402Hard to see, but this is my peace sign template. I used an art pencil and dessert bowl to create the circle, then filled in the lines.

IMG_2408And there you go! Your very own custom-designed summer straw bag. I think a heart or multiple little flowers would be cute too. Next DIY?

IMG_2425Our local Ausable River Valley Studio Tour was the perfect venue to show off my latest creation. (And yes, compliments were heard.) My outfit is “shop my closet”: J. Crew C’EST PARFAIT tee, Current/Elliot distressed jeans and silver Birkies.

Apologies for not posting “similar” links, but my Verizon mo-fi is not cooperating. If you’d like to check out some fun options J. Crew has tons of cute tees on super sale now, the Nordstrom Sale has awesome denim options, and Zappos has more Birkies than you could ever want. (I have my eye on navy and white patent.)

And let me know if you have some more pom pom DIY ideas or requests!

Girls Just Want To Have Sun

IMG_0461Well, there’s not one bad thing we can say about our stay in Delray Beach. We just might have to retire here! (And the Dacks, of course.) More on that in a later post. But seriously, my husband Chris first went to Delray as a baby, and he’s loved it ever since. What’s not to love…the beach, tennis (bliss for him, sort of for me), great restaurants, shopping (yay for me), and just a chill vibe. Which we both very much needed.

Palm Beach Preppy

IMG_0301I’m writing this post at the wee hours of our first day back. With a big 9am presentation looming. But my brain is on overdrive. Speaking of drives. It was a 14 1/2 hour one back to Jersey City from Savannah. Who knew Virginia had that much traffic? Yikes. I drove for maybe 1 1/2 hours? Chris was Superman. All in all, it was a great adventure, though next time (?!?) I’m pretty sure I would vote for breaking the drive back up north by one more stop.

Feeling Kind Of Blue

IMG_0084It may be May, but temps here in JC are still on the chilly side. That’s when a jean jacket becomes my day-into-night go-to. This one is by a Earl, a now defunct brand, and is at least 10 years old. I loved it the first day I wore it, and I love it even more all these years later. The fitted cut and dark wash create a more sophisticated, less slouchy silhouette. To keep it fresh, I like to add pins and buttons collected on trips and vintage trawls. Museum shops are great sources, too.

Pretty Little Spring Things

IMG_2386Spring is definitely in my dreams, if not quite in the air. Here in Jersey City we’re still waiting for all of Storm Stella’s now dirty snow to melt. But I love how much warmer the sun feels, how much longer it stays light outside. Don’t you?
