Is it crazy to build your whole look around a pair of shoes? Not if it’s Shoesday Tuesday! When it came to these llama-detailed velvet sneaks, it was love at first sight for me. But not buy at first sight. I hemmed and hawed for a couple of weeks, then panicked they would sell out. So…a few secs on my Mac, and they were mine. And now we’re together forever, wherever they take me! I mean seriously…are they not the cutest.
What do you do when you’ve made the bed, thrown in a load of laundry, worked out and are still waiting on the Hubs to get home? How about a little DIY! Since our afternoon plan centered around a local Studio Tour, I guess I felt inspired to do a little something “artistic” with a recent consignment find. In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, this Summer straw/sea grass/rattan/basket bags are all the rage. And Pom Poms! And while I love the looks other Bloggers are rocking, I couldn’t help wanting to put my own spin on a top 2017 trend. And yes, it literally took me minutes. Cute bag I bought at Adirondack Attic for just $12.
Bring on the Pom Poms! I bought 3 boxes of 3 color ways at Kids Made Modern at Target months ago and haven’t stopped playing with them since. This Pom Pom Party box is the perfect way for you to bring your inner DIYer out! And don’t fear the glue gun. Get one. Stat.
Hard to see, but this is my peace sign template. I used an art pencil and dessert bowl to create the circle, then filled in the lines.
And there you go! Your very own custom-designed summer straw bag. I think a heart or multiple little flowers would be cute too. Next DIY?
Our local Ausable River Valley Studio Tour was the perfect venue to show off my latest creation. (And yes, compliments were heard.) My outfit is “shop my closet”: J. Crew C’EST PARFAIT tee, Current/Elliot distressed jeans and silver Birkies.
Apologies for not posting “similar” links, but my Verizon mo-fi is not cooperating. If you’d like to check out some fun options J. Crew has tons of cute tees on super sale now, the Nordstrom Sale has awesome denim options, and Zappos has more Birkies than you could ever want. (I have my eye on navy and white patent.)
And let me know if you have some more pom pom DIY ideas or requests!

Well, there’s not one bad thing we can say about our stay in Delray Beach. We just might have to retire here! (And the Dacks, of course.) More on that in a later post. But seriously, my husband Chris first went to Delray as a baby, and he’s loved it ever since. What’s not to love…the beach, tennis (bliss for him, sort of for me), great restaurants, shopping (yay for me), and just a chill vibe. Which we both very much needed.
I’m writing this post at the wee hours of our first day back. With a big 9am presentation looming. But my brain is on overdrive. Speaking of drives. It was a 14 1/2 hour one back to Jersey City from Savannah. Who knew Virginia had that much traffic? Yikes. I drove for maybe 1 1/2 hours? Chris was Superman. All in all, it was a great adventure, though next time (?!?) I’m pretty sure I would vote for breaking the drive back up north by one more stop.
It may be May, but temps here in JC are still on the chilly side. That’s when a jean jacket becomes my day-into-night go-to. This one is by a Earl, a now defunct brand, and is at least 10 years old. I loved it the first day I wore it, and I love it even more all these years later. The fitted cut and dark wash create a more sophisticated, less slouchy silhouette. To keep it fresh, I like to add pins and buttons collected on trips and vintage trawls. Museum shops are great sources, too.
Spring is still trying to “spring” here in Jersey City. One day will be warm and sunny, the next grey and chilly. I guess this look is my way of saying “C’mon already!”
Spring is definitely in my dreams, if not quite in the air. Here in Jersey City we’re still waiting for all of Storm Stella’s now dirty snow to melt. But I love how much warmer the sun feels, how much longer it stays light outside. Don’t you?
I know, I know…smile. But sometimes you just gotta put your game face on. I would wear this outfit for a business meeting where I need to wow their socks off, or for date night (wow the Hubs) or for GNO (Girls Night Out, wink). Think you get the idea…it’s a look you can wear anywhere, almost anytime — with individual pieces that can change up other looks in a flash. This ruffled jacket (which is kind of channeling Chanel, no?) with a white tee and jeans? Polished. The striped tee with white jeans and silver sandals? Beach chic. (So love the glittery elephant patch.) And these cropped, slit-hem flares from Who What Wear for Target? Simply genius. So comfortable, so flattering, so versatile. I will be wearing them ALOT. They would be amazing on a trip, especially when you want to just do carry-on. To finish it off, a sleek grey top-handled bag and strappy but walkable heels.
OK, we’re not talking Members Only tracksuits. But we are talking workout-inspired, easy does it. We shot this post in our neighborhood park, but I could easily see myself in this look for a day of meetings around NYC. Think it would be pretty great for traveling as well. Pair these track pants with heels and a cami, and you have a pretty cool dinner outfit, too.
What the world needs now? Love, sweet love. Not just for Valentine’s Day but for our future. This outfit was pretty much what I wore for the Women’s March in NYC on Jan 21st. And it really made me feel as happy as that day did. I also marched with my son Pierre’s girlfriend, April, which was a special moment for me. I am so glad I shared it with such a stellar person, someone who’s going to light the world up in so many ways. And without getting too political that was the vibe of the March. A rainbow of people marching to make sure we all embrace the love, not the hate.
