Pattern Play

When I’m not loving all things leopard print, I’m falling pretty hard for deep-hued florals. They still feel fresh and fun with the weather staying closer to summer temps than those of autumn, especially when they take shape in a fabulous, flutter-sleeved midi dress like this. But cooler days are definitely ahead, so I’ve been playing with how to keep these two trendy patterns going, and better yet, going together.

Tough Enough

img_7244Jersey City is a hub of construction — new buildings or brownstone rehabs seem to be on every other block. I thought the rough hewn look of this almost finished condo was the perfect backdrop for this post. While I love all the individual pieces in this outfit, I wasn’t sure about the total effect. But on second look, I’m pretty happy with the combo. It’s a mostly black palette with the pop of red plaid and leopard. And red lipstick! Which I probably dare to wear once a year.
