Fa-la-la Flannel!

I’m thinking this look is the country counterpoint to my last Jersey City post…which was 11 days ago! I have been the busiest over these last almost-2-weeks that I’ve been in a long, long while. A big shoot and edit for a L’Oreal haircare project and a new campaign pitch on another haircare brand. While I do love what I do, I’ve missed posting! We shot this look last weekend, and it’s only now late on the following Friday night that I could sit down and write this post, share these pics. Hope you enjoy!

Be Merry, Be Bright, Be You!

Hello, Holidays! Thanksgiving was just over a week ago. Do you feel like you blinked and one fantastic holiday is now hurtling towards another? I don’t know about you, but this time of year I feel like everything goes into hyper mode. I made a detailed TO DO list today, and guess what, not checking it all off. But while we’re all multi-tasking,  let’s also take a deep breath.  We’ve got time to get it done.

Leopard Love!

This fashion cat can never get enough of animal prints and embellishments, especially leopard. For me it’s really a neutral, albeit one that can take a tame outfit to wilder territory. For this look, I doubled down on the leopard with two of my new wardrobe loves — this adorable cat-eared hat and tailored jacket. Both are oh-so-cozy. Throw in a favorite pair of OTK boots, and you’re ready to take a walk on the wild side!

Plush Crush

We finally had a chilly day last week. One. But it was the perfect opportunity to shoot this adorable faux fur jacket. I first spied it online, then tried it on in-store, then finally broke down and ordered it online. And I LOVE it. It is so cute and so cozy I want more cold weather. Pronto. I’m wearing a “borrowed from the boys” kind of outfit with it, but it will look super when paired with a velvet dress or…just about anything.

Mood Indigo

Maybe it’s because I’m the mother of 3 boys, cough…young men, that I’m drawn to the color blue. Not to mention their (and my husband’s) school colors over the years! Good thing blue is such a deep and versatile color in the best ways possible. With its spectrum from sky light to inky dark, there’s a shade or two or three that’s flattering to everyone. At the moment, electric blue is on the fashion radar, but it’s a bit too intense for me. I’m more of a navy and dusty blue girl. I believe fashion is about being inspired by a trend and making it your own. So find the shade that suits your mood, the moment, and just be true to your blue.

A warm and fuzzy feeling

This Fall the fur is flying…off the runways and out of the stores. From luxury pelts to fabulous and faux, there is something furry for everyone. For this look I decided to accessorize with a new fave bag and slides, both trimmed in fun faux fur. Can I just say this raffia-and-fur bag is about the cutest thing! And these slides look luxe and feel like you’re walking on pillows. I forgot all about my plantar fascitis!

Going on the Llama!

Is it crazy to build your whole look around a pair of shoes? Not if it’s Shoesday Tuesday! When it came to these llama-detailed velvet sneaks, it was love at first sight for me. But not buy at first sight. I hemmed and hawed for a couple of weeks, then panicked they would sell out. So…a few secs on my Mac, and they were mine. And now we’re together forever, wherever they take me! I mean seriously…are they not the cutest.

C’est Cool

New York Fashion Week came and went once again. My closest brush to its spotlight was long ago in the early 80s when I walked in one show. This year? I wasn’t invited to any shows, which were by and large panned by most fashion critics. But I did love seeing all the street style — some of it inspiring, some outlandish. All in all, I was feeling the need to step a bit out of my comfort zone. Perhaps forego my usual flats in favor of some heels. I’d also recently learned that my vision has actually improved, so I would need new prescription glasses. No better time than now to try out some pretty fashion-forward sunnies and see just how I felt about going bolder, bigger. The answer? I’m not sure they are really “me.” But I did get a kick out of trying out a new look, even for just one day.

Santa Fe Stroll

While I would have loved to have been strolling the streets of NYC for Fashion Week (next year?!?), I was in Santa Fe for a “Girls Getaway.” Did we eat too much? Yes! Shop too much? Some of us! Drink too much? I’ll never tell! Laugh too much? Not possible! I only packed one dress, this one, because most of the restaurants are on the casual side. But I was super excited to wear it for the first time. And now that I’m back home I plan to wear this lovely lacy dress at least a few more times in the weeks ahead, layering a leather jacket or bomber or cardigan over it as needed. So you may be seeing this dress again!

The Art of Black and White

IMG_3775There’s no other combination that’s cleaner, chicer, more graphic than black and white. However you put it together, it just works. You can dress it up, dress it down. You could probably wear black and white every day of the week and never wear it the same way twice. (Hmmm…possible future blog post?)

As for Art? Black and white makes a powerful statement there too. Yes, the messaging in this streetwise piece is pretty heavy, but I’m glad its creator found his voice.
