Fall 2016: Velvet on Velvet

TGIF! It’s been a super busy week “day job” wise, as I’m juggling multiple freelance projects. All fun but demanding of my time. I had hoped to post a day or two ago, especially after the great shoot we had last weekend. And especially because I want to share some of my favorite fall fashion finds — pieces I know I (you?) will be wearing again and again. And will probably love just as much next year, too.

So unless you’ve been living on an atoll in the Indian Ocean you know VELVET is everything this fall. I’ve loved velvet since I was a kid — from my Madame Alexander doll dresses to ballet recitals to holiday party dresses. It’s lush, plush, and simply perfect for colder weather. I had my eye on these Blue Velvet Booties the moment I saw them, backorder drama notwithstanding. They are simply sublime. The pants? I saw a super stylish woman striding down 5th Ave one afternoon and said to myself I must have those pants and they must be Zara. Bingo. A boyish chambray shirt seemed the perfect counterpoint, but I added clip-on vintage earrings to the collar points for some bling-i-ty bling. (DIY!) The bag is from a local JC vintage/consignment store Mint Market. For me it really reads baby Givenchy  Messenger Bag and was the perfect shade of navy blue…with multi-metallic studs. Yay! The leather jacket was a super splurge more than 8 years ago, which now seems like the ultimate bargain. I love it, and so does everyone else.

Velvet Booties: I have searched and tried on many alternatives but these are it! (And frankly, any boot from Stuart Weitzman. An accessory investment you will never regret.)

Velvet Culottes: Zara  or these  or these

Leather Jacket (old, Blur) but sublime options here and here

Chambray Shirt: (Gap, sold out) but like this and this

Accessories: both Vintage, check out Mint Market

  1. Reblogged this on Fancy Nancy says…. and commented:
Loving this velvet vibe from my friend Mary-Paula. I pulled out my black velvet slim cigarette pants and paired with a plain white t-shirt and jean jacket. And in the closet -shopping mode pulled out my Velvet Leopard waist-coat jacket paired with wide leg high-waist black jeans and new ankle boots to pull the whole thing together. thanks M-P

  2. This is one of my favorite blog posts/outfits of all time. I’m obsessed with these pants and I love how you put your clip on vintage earrings to the collar-points of your shirt. #EverythingOnFLEEK!

P.S. You inspired me to get the Gucci Marmont slippers–they’re SO comfortable, versatile, and easy!
