It’s Official: Leopard is a Neutral

Yes, leopard has been declared not just a neutral but also the “it” pattern by fashion authorities Bazaar, Refinery 29 and Who What Wear. But I already knew that, because I’ve been living on the wild side since, well, forever. And while I love me some chic cheetah or sophisticated snake, I have to admit leopard is my tried and true go-to because…it goes with everything! Black, white, red, stripes, florals…as you can see from this previous post and also this one.The “star” of this post is definitely the Naomi – Wild Things silk slip skirt by LA-based label Realisation Par. As the piece social media was instantly going wild for, it was hard to miss. Not to mention waitlist only. Still, I knew I had to have it. And it’s been on repeat since it arrived, garnering over 300 likes from my Insta post @ the David Bowie/BMA show. For this shoot, I styled it casually for day and ladylike for night. And you can bet I’ve got countless more outfits planned.
LEOPARD BY DAY
LEOPARD BY NIGHT
My Mother’s Mother was a VERY conservative Southern lady who for as long as I could remember had her maid strap her into a corset every morning, but when it came to her pajamas she was all about leopard. In contrast, my Mother was a classic, understated dresser who wore Lanz nighties and hated anything animal print. I, however, did not fall far from the magnolia tree and was obsessed. I know, I know, a shrink would have a field day with all of this. But really, it’s just what stirs your fashion instincts. And mine say leopard is simply purr-fect, day or night! I kid you not, right now Nordstrom literally has 100s of head-to-toe leopard options to choose from.

But for me, these days leopard takes its fiercest, most versatile form in this silk skirt which feels like heaven and wears like a dream. Even in the Concrete Jungle, it’s a compliment magnet. The feminine, bias cut flatters every figure type, and it even has an easy-fit elastic waist!

For Day, I paired it with a simple black tank, classic stadium stripe hoodie, my standout statement bag (seen here and here), and a pair of favorite faux fur slides (also seen here).

For Night, I switched it up with a lacy black top, oversized tassel earrings that have been featured in LOTS of my posts (seen here and here ), and the pop of white (not black!) shoes (seen here) and bag.

How about you? Are you living for leopard, too??
