Keep It Casual

This black-and-white look is all about looking pulled together when you’re looking forward to some down time. Full disclosure: I shopped my closet for most of it, but that’s because by sticking to this classic palette, it was fast and easy to style old pieces into a brand new look. Sure, keep it casual. But keep it chic, too.

While this look definitely puts me in a weekend state-of-mind, I think it would make a comfy yet chic travel outfit, too. And once you reach your destination, you can easily deconstruct it to come up with a variety of day-to-night looks.

To prove my point, take a look at how I paired this hoodie with a leopard-print skirt here. And my heart tee with another skirt here. (Of course it would spruce up a favorite pair of jeans, too.) As every fashionista knows (and that means you!) a pair of white designer sneakers are not just about athleisure, as this post proved. These socially responsible sneakers are also about sustainability, fair wages, innovative materials and vegan options. My “splurge” designer tote is now a well-loved wardrobe staple (as seen here, here, here and here). Even after three years of multi-seasonal use, it looks brand new, always garners compliments, and goes with almost everything.

The one new piece I pulled for this look? These slouchy, silky-soft, wide leg pants that feel like pajamas but look perfectly polished. I love the graphic inset along each leg and the waistband (not shown). I’m keeping it casual here, but I could see these wide leg pants with a sleek black turtleneck and booties for a business meeting or a black lace cami (tucked in to show off that waistband) and strappy sandals for a night out. The collection also boasts a matching collared shirt that looks pretty sharp, too. WhoWhatWear x Target does it again. And for under $35!

There’s nothing wrong with defaulting to leggings or yoga pants and running shoes for time off or traveling. I know I do! But I hope this look inspires you to rethink just how dressed-up dressing down can be. And don’t forget, I’d love to know how you put your own spin on keeping it casual!

Hoodie: (Adidas) Similar here and here.

Tee: (Comme des Garçons Play) Also like this and this.

Pants: (WhoWhatWear x Target)

Bag: (Balenciaga, outlet price!) More affordable here and here.

Sneakers: (Veja, latest version here) Have my eye on these and these, too.

  1. Love how you can mix and match and pair with other pieces to create so many great looks. Great ideas – love the look. The photos of you jumping and hamming around are infectiously cute!!!

    1. Thank you, Kathy! I’m naturally a “ham,” but I don’t necessarily share that side of myself in the blog.
      That just might be changing…
