Seeing Stars

Somewhere in a galaxy far, far away…I stepped out of my fashion comfort zone. Well, really, just in Jersey City. I had been thinking about how to let these feather-trimmed pajama pants finally take flight. An impulse purchase, they had languished in my closet for over a year. Crazy, I know. When I spotted this amazing street art on my way home from the Path train, I knew the time and place were perfect. And it was worth the wait. Now, I’ve got big plans for my feathery fashion piece, as well as this cozy hooded sweater, glitter sneakers, and beaded bucket bag.
I’ve continued into November with a combination of shopping my closet and adding some fresh fall finds. I’ve tried to stay focused on items that bring me “joy” — as the organization guru Marie Kondo advises. After all, it doesn’t make sense to do a massive closet cleanse, and then go on a shopping jag that fills it to overflowing all over again. This new discipline has really helped eliminate that feeling of being so overwhelmed by choices that nothing looks or feels right.

So let’s talk the pieces in this outfit. Who doesn’t love a cozy hooded sweater? I sure do! Especially when it’s in ultra violet, Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year. And while I’m wearing it solo here, it will look and feel warm and wonderful layered under a winter jacket or coat. And if I forget a hat, I’m covered! Full disclosure, this hooded sweater was an under $20 score from a Zara sale rack, but I’ve linked some super cute, colorful and cozy options below. You already know these feather-trimmed pants are “so last year.” But feathers are continuing to have a fashion moment. If you’d like to add something fluttery and fun to your wardrobe, check out the links below.

Now let’s talk accessories because both these glitter sneakers and beaded bag are on trend and good to go! Love how Tretorn has put a sparkly, sophisticated twist on their classic sneaker. I think I actually bought my first pair as a sophomore in college…and not to date myself (but I will) that was decades ago. Yay for standing the test of time! Obviously these glitter sneakers are comfortable, but I can’t wait to pair them with a black midi skirt, as well as my favorite jeans. For added chic, they’re trimmed in black velvet and sport black velvet laces, too. Similar to this summer’s tsunami of straw/rattan/basket bags, beaded bags are a top fall trend — in sizes from compact (like this one) to truly tote-worthy. I’ve linked this one, and some other faves, below.

So…happy shopping in your closet and maybe with some of these links, too!
