While I would have loved to have been strolling the streets of NYC for Fashion Week (next year?!?), I was in Santa Fe for a “Girls Getaway.” Did we eat too much? Yes! Shop too much? Some of us! Drink too much? I’ll never tell! Laugh too much? Not possible! I only packed one dress, this one, because most of the restaurants are on the casual side. But I was super excited to wear it for the first time. And now that I’m back home I plan to wear this lovely lacy dress at least a few more times in the weeks ahead, layering a leather jacket or bomber or cardigan over it as needed. So you may be seeing this dress again!
By now you probably know that we generally don’t “dress up” up in the Dacks. That doesn’t mean that fashion is completely sacrificed. It’s just that what feels right is less about trend and more about whatever it is you’re up to. And I for one find that a welcome relief from NYC’s (and the Blogosphere’s and Instagrams’s) sometimes unrelenting emphasis on “of the moment” style. Yes, it’s fun to have a bag the It Girls covet or get compliments on your OOTD, but it’s also fun to just keep it simple and see where the day takes you. 
There’s no other combination that’s cleaner, chicer, more graphic than black and white. However you put it together, it just works. You can dress it up, dress it down. You could probably wear black and white every day of the week and never wear it the same way twice. (Hmmm…possible future blog post?)
It’s true. You can take the Girl out of Greenwich Village, but you can’t take Greenwich Village out of the Girl. While I don’t think growing up across the street from Washington Square Park in the 60s makes my childhood more meaningful than others, it might just make it a bit more unique. As in home movies of my sisters and me scampering around hippies at a Be-In. Or protesting girls not having sports teams in elementary school. Babysitting money went far in those days, as we wandered the neighborhood in search of posters, beads, candles and pizza. We even learned how to order and tip like grown-ups at the crepe shops and coffee bars. And yes, the perfect OOTD was a must, starting with your jeans. So this a long lead-up to saying this look brought back a lot of memories, while feeling very fun and now. And very me.
Yes…that’s my photographer’s shadow. Not a perfect fashion moment, but hey, that’s life. This bright-striped duo has been hanging in my closet since June, and I couldn’t put its blog debut off any longer. Especially since stripes and Summer are made for each other. The cutaway crochet tank and pleated knit skirt are my first Worth New York purchases. It was really fun to work with Lisa, my friend and Worth Stylist, in their airy, elegant New York City showroom. I tried on quite a few things, but in the end loved how these two separates paired up. I think I even surprised Lisa with the look.
I know the magazines, blogs and stores are already full of cashmere sweaters and suede boots, but I love shopping the last-of-summer sales for bargains I can have fun with now and be thrilled to see next year. Since my tootsies will be bundled up before you know it, I savor these last weeks of wearing sandals and enjoying the pedicures that go with them. All of my picks are still available and all are on sale. I was able to make two of my shoe-athon purchases with an added code, bringing each of them to under $65 a pair!
What do you do when you’ve made the bed, thrown in a load of laundry, worked out and are still waiting on the Hubs to get home? How about a little DIY! Since our afternoon plan centered around a local Studio Tour, I guess I felt inspired to do a little something “artistic” with a recent consignment find. In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, this Summer straw/sea grass/rattan/basket bags are all the rage. And Pom Poms! And while I love the looks other Bloggers are rocking, I couldn’t help wanting to put my own spin on a top 2017 trend. And yes, it literally took me minutes. 
Not sure about you, but we were lucky enough to extend this summer’s midweek 4th of July from one weekend to another weekend. And wow, was it hard to come back! I’m a born and raised “NYC girl” (literally Greenwich Village), but I so love my simpler life up in the North Country. I’ve done quite a bit of traveling all over the world and have visited some beautiful and historical places, but The Adirondacks are truly an amazing destination, let alone a National treasure. You have got to put this special place on your bucket list!
Hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July. We celebrated the day with lots of Adirondack activities. It goes without saying that my outfit of the day (and night) had to be true to this holiday’s color scheme of red, white and blue. While red is not really a color I typically gravitate to, blue and white are. They always feel classic yet fresh to me. And whether it was the flags, the fireworks or even the ketchup at the cookout, I thoroughly enjoyed the pops of red.
