Feeling Feline

Apparently all the cool girls in Copenhagen have leopard print at the top of their Fall 2018 fashion lists. And we all know my love for leopard knows no bounds. So does that make me cool? Whether it’s yes or no, sometimes it’s best to tone this wild side down a bit. And nothing does that better or more beautifully than a well-tailored (and well-priced!) blazer and pants.

Playful Plaid

Just as gingham is a quintessential summer pattern, plaid is all about fall. Historically plaid has been a checkered or tartan twilled cloth, typically made of wool. The Scottish word “plaide” dates from the 16th century. Think kilts (Outlander!), scarves and windblown moors. And yes, school uniforms! Maybe that’s why I loved this classic pattern even as a high schooler? This fall, plaid is making a serious style statement in unexpected color combinations and silhouettes. And I for one couldn’t be happier.

On the Prowl

Yes, you’re seeing spots. As in leopard. Because the fashion world is seriously wild about this iconic pattern. And since I am too, it’s going to be in heavy rotation this Fall…and beyond. You got your first glimpse of my so-loved silk leopard print skirt in this recent post. So it was only natural that my closet was in need of a great pair of leopard pants, right? Dressed up or down, these silky, slouchy wide leg pants are definitely going to be prowling around town.

Just Peachy!

According to Perrier and my Inbox, August is National Peach Month! Yay!! So since we bought some almost-ripe beauties last weekend at the Farmer’s Market up in the Adirondacks that were now ready to go, I wanted to come up with something that would do them — and us — right. Basically I riffed on a crowd-pleasing blueberry yogurt cake I’ve made many, many times. It’s the kind of cake that makes the perfect summer dessert when topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, but it’s also fantastic for breakfast/brunch when it spends a few minutes in the toaster oven and then is finished with some cream cheese. It’s a super simple recipe I hope you’ll give a try.

It’s Official: Leopard is a Neutral

Yes, leopard has been declared not just a neutral but also the “it” pattern by fashion authorities Bazaar, Refinery 29 and Who What Wear. But I already knew that, because I’ve been living on the wild side since, well, forever. And while I love me some chic cheetah or sophisticated snake, I have to admit leopard is my tried and true go-to because…it goes with everything! Black, white, red, stripes, florals…as you can see from this previous post and also this one.The “star” of this post is definitely the Naomi – Wild Things silk slip skirt by LA-based label Realisation Par. As the piece social media was instantly going wild for, it was hard to miss. Not to mention waitlist only. Still, I knew I had to have it. And it’s been on repeat since it arrived, garnering over 300 likes from my Insta post @ the David Bowie/BMA show. For this shoot, I styled it casually for day and ladylike for night. And you can bet I’ve got countless more outfits planned.

Jean-ius!

If you’re a regular follower of my blog, you know I live in jeans (as seen here, here, here, here, here, here, hereherehere and…). You might even say I’m obsessed. I’m also lucky that the Advertising biz is pretty casual in terms of a work wardrobe, so jeans are an everyday staple. That being said, I’m always on the hunt for special details that up my denim game. And these patchwork cropped jeans immediately caught my eye.

Summer Breeze

With temps hovering around 90 degrees, I can’t even begin to think about fall fashion — even if every other blogger out there is touting the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Don’t get me wrong. The #NSale is a great way to get a great deal on key pieces you’ve got on your wardrobe shopping list. And that’s the key — make a list and stick to it! I’ve found I can all too easily go down the rabbit hole of impulse shopping for items I actually already own. Long grey cardigan? I already have two fabulous options. Chic crossbody bag? Check that too. So for the moment, I’m going to seize the day (and night) and dress for the moment. And right now sizzling weather demands an easy, breezy summer silhouette. Like this one.

Birds of a Feather

I know I’ve been hyping stripes this summer, but I’ve gotta give it up to the pure fashion fun of feathers too. They’re what take this slouchy graphic top from comfy to full-on chic. And a top this bold deserves the perfect backdrop. Luckily Jersey City is full of the most colorful and creative street art, so I think we succeeded on that front. Come take a walk on the wild side with me…

Stripes in the City

Blue and white is one of my favorite summer color combinations. Blue and white stripes? That’s everything all-in-one. And simply perfect in this season’s must-have, one-shoulder ruffle top. Even better when paired with this summer’s other hottest silhouette, the high-waisted wide leg jean. In crisp, fresh white, of course. Best of all, while I was inspired (and tempted) by some beautiful designer pieces, both of these on-trend choices were totally affordable.

Lighten Up!

Finally, summer weather is here. And that means we can break out our whites. As long as you switch up textures, it’s a cool, understated look I love from head-to-toe. For this look, I shopped my closet. Because who doesn’t have a selection of white pieces? You could easily flip this look with a white lace blouse, white jeans, flat white sandals, and an of-the-moment beaded bag. As much as I love the NEW, I’m really trying to be mindful of adding new things to my wardrobe. It’s a good watch-out for all of us!
