C’est Cool

New York Fashion Week came and went once again. My closest brush to its spotlight was long ago in the early 80s when I walked in one show. This year? I wasn’t invited to any shows, which were by and large panned by most fashion critics. But I did love seeing all the street style — some of it inspiring, some outlandish. All in all, I was feeling the need to step a bit out of my comfort zone. Perhaps forego my usual flats in favor of some heels. I’d also recently learned that my vision has actually improved, so I would need new prescription glasses. No better time than now to try out some pretty fashion-forward sunnies and see just how I felt about going bolder, bigger. The answer? I’m not sure they are really “me.” But I did get a kick out of trying out a new look, even for just one day.

Pink Power

And it really made me feel as happy as that day did. I also marched with my son Pierre’s girlfriend, April, which  was a special moment for me. I am so glad I shared it with such a stellar person, someone who’s going to light the world up in so many ways. And without getting too political that was the vibe of the March. A rainbow of people marching to make sure we all embrace the love, not the hate.

Black & Camel Combo

img_8923A wee bit tired of black and white as your go-to look? Think about combining black and camel. For me, it’s a warmer palette that’s especially flattering to every skin tone. This bell-sleeved peplum sweater is one of my favorite purchases of the season, so that’s where I started. To balance out its fitted and flared silhouette, I paired it with black skinnies. These have patched pleather knees which gives them a bit more of a fashion edge. For accessories, I chose my beloved and oh-so-plush personalized cashmere scarf, a teeny (but it still holds your phone, keys, lipstick and credit card/cash) bucket bag (note to self: ring handles are “it”) and leopard print booties. And let’s not forget Bowie, the ultimate Black & Camel combo!
