A few weeks back in February people were actually strolling around in sandals, shorts and tees and dining al fresco. Then March rolled in. It’s gotten chillier by the day, and while I’m dying to break out my favorite new Spring pieces, it’s still too soon to do it from head-to-toe. But…you can mix in the new (long cardigan, pom pom sneakers and white jeans) with cozier layers you already own (turtleneck sweater, cashmere beanie).

White Shirt Alert
This is not wardrobe science, but a really great white shirt can make a bad outfit day a good one. Seriously. So for me, when I’m stumped on my fashion statement, I often reach for a white shirt. For this post, I wore the same pair of step hem jeans ( DIY) and changed out my 3 new favorite white shirts and shoes ( had to do that!).
Black & Camel Combo
A wee bit tired of black and white as your go-to look? Think about combining black and camel. For me, it’s a warmer palette that’s especially flattering to every skin tone. This bell-sleeved peplum sweater is one of my favorite purchases of the season, so that’s where I started. To balance out its fitted and flared silhouette, I paired it with black skinnies. These have patched pleather knees which gives them a bit more of a fashion edge. For accessories, I chose my beloved and oh-so-plush personalized cashmere scarf, a teeny (but it still holds your phone, keys, lipstick and credit card/cash) bucket bag (note to self: ring handles are “it”) and leopard print booties. And let’s not forget Bowie, the ultimate Black & Camel combo!
Fitted, Flare & Faux
Despite being December it was sunny and almost 50 degrees when we shot this post, so I opted to go coat-less. Not so a few hours later.
City & Country
We shot this post in my JC neighborhood, but the plaid top has already migrated up to our cabin. It’s a fun, feminine twist on the flannel shirt look that’s right at home in the mountains. Once the weather cools down, a black puffer is perfect…anywhere, anytime. And there are so many great options out there. This one has a slightly shiny finish, which makes it a bit more city chic. Have to confess I also have its twin by another mother in the Adirondacks.
LBO: Little Black Outfit
Wearing black from head-to-toe can look (and feel) a bit funereal. One of my tricks is to mix textures for a more visually (and personally) exciting look. Here, I’ve combined a few of my current favorites.
White Jeans…Whenever.
This Fall (and Winter) I’ve decided to flout the “rules” and refuse to pack away my white jeans. That’s been easy of late, since we’ve had a ridiculously warm November. But come colder temps I’m already planning on pairing them with some scrunched down thick socks and snow boots…or tucking them into over-the-knee boots. In NYC we tend to dive into black from head-to-toe post Labor Day, but this year I’m going to be a hold out.
Fall 2016: Red Alert
When it comes to color, I’m usually kind of a low key, neutral person. I like cool, comforting shades. Or black. Then I saw these boots…
Fall 2016: Another day, another chance to Sparkle
We had a big shoot planned for Sunday, but Hurricane Matthew had other plans. Thank goodness my new building has some cool spots to catch some shots.
Fall 2016: If the Shoe fits…
Each new season gives us a reason to clean out the old (consign, donate, give to a friend, all of the above) and refresh with the new. I haven’t yet fully switched over my closet from spring/summer to fall/winter as the weather keeps seesawing, but I do try to stick to the rule of however much comes in an equal number must go out.
