Bright Stripes, Big City

IMG_3210Yes…that’s my photographer’s shadow. Not a perfect fashion moment, but hey, that’s life. This bright-striped duo has been hanging in my closet since June, and I couldn’t put its blog debut off any longer. Especially since stripes and Summer are made for each other. The cutaway crochet tank and pleated knit skirt are my first Worth New York purchases. It was really fun to work with Lisa, my friend and Worth Stylist, in their airy, elegant New York City showroom. I tried on quite a few things, but in the end loved how these two separates paired up. I think I even surprised Lisa with the look. Read More

Summer Shoe-athon!

img_3153.jpgI know the magazines, blogs and stores are already full of cashmere sweaters and suede boots, but I love shopping the last-of-summer sales for bargains I can have fun with now and be thrilled to see next year. Since my tootsies will be bundled up before you know it, I savor these last weeks of wearing sandals and enjoying the pedicures that go with them. All of my picks are still available and all are on sale. I was able to make two of my shoe-athon purchases with an added code, bringing each of them to under $65 a pair!

IMG_3172IMG_3174It was lust at first sight for these Madewell gladiator sandals with colorful raffia pom-poms on the laces. With a nod to traditional shoemaking, they were designed to leave the nailheads visible on the soles. Oh…and did i say the natural colored leather looks and feels truly lux.

IMG_3177If you don’t know Soludos, you should! They are known for their fun and fashion-y embroidered espadrilles. You may remember this pair. While not embroidered, the blue- hued patchwork of this classic lace-up sandal is a nod to the groovy chic of 70s muses like Jane Birkin and Ali McGraw. Music to my ears! And another must-have.

Madewell’s slide with artful raffia fringe and a stylish yet comfy block heel equal the perfect summer party shoe. And because they’re black, they’ll also make a perfect transition into those first few weeks of fall.

IMG_3163I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect navy sandal. And I found it! This timeless banded flat from Soludos in midnight suede with handcrafted embroidery, appliqué and grommets is the perfect boho go-to for beach boardwalks…or city streets. Their back zipper makes them easy on, easy off. And did I say SUPER comfy!

Madewell Sale (true to size for me, but I order a half size up for anything with a heel) & Soludos Sale (for me their shoes usually run small, so for closed toe espadrilles I order a size up)

So many cute and colorful options! Let me know if you choose any of these for yourself. Or find something else you’d like to share. Happy shopping!

Dressed Up Dressed Down

IMG_2812Well, here we are. Already in the last week of our 2-week vacation at a very beloved, very one-of-a-kind place. It’s all about the beach but it’s so much more than the beach. It’s no cars. It’s ride your bike everywhere, and that means 2 year olds and 90 year olds — on tricycles as needed. It’s sailing on the Great South Bay. It’s Yoga to the the chirp of a bird, the thwack of a tennis ball. Did I say tennis. It’s tennis. And more tennis. It’s the sunny “Circle” that keeps growing with every beach chair. It’s rum and tonics and rosé as the sun goes down. It’s flashlights instead of streetlights. It’s family and friends. It’s laughs, love, and memories to last a lifetime. It’s the best.

Call this a Summer Date Night Look, especially at the Beach. It was pretty cool when we first arrived at Point O’ Woods, so a sweatshirt was a welcome option. And while a sweatshirt is usually what you think of as dressed down, the cold shoulder and ruffles really switch this one up. Chic but still cozy. When it comes to jeans, I’m a sucker for whatever elevates them to a more dressed up option. Just loving the spray of faux pearls and rhinestones, ending in a must-have frayed hem no less. Jeans are only allowed in the bar at The Club, and white ones are ubiquitous. But I couldn’t help being a bit of a rule breaker with this look. You only live once, right? (I did add sparkly gladiators as bare feet are definitely NOT allowed.)

Embellished Jeans: Pilcro for Anthropologie  but cute alternative here (on sale!)

Cold Shoulder Sweatshirt: Style Mafia (super cute and other color options! On sale!!)

Hello Yellow!

IMG_2565As a blonde, I’ve always avoided wearing the color yellow. I really can’t tell you why. A fashion rule? Or my own rule?? Well, rules were meant to be broken. The color yellow stands for freshness, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, optimism and joy. Boy was I missing out! Yellow in all its hues from sunny to mustard has been heating up the summer scene and promises to keep going strong into fall. So when I spied this eyelet dress, I had to say yes to yellow. And guess what? It brightens my mood whenever I put it on. So my new fashion rule is wear what makes you feel good. Whatever your hair color, whatever your age.

Pom Poms for Peace!

IMG_2401What do you do when you’ve made the bed, thrown in a load of laundry, worked out and are still waiting on the Hubs to get home? How about a little DIY! Since our afternoon plan centered around a local Studio Tour, I guess I felt inspired to do a little something “artistic” with a recent consignment find. In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, this Summer straw/sea grass/rattan/basket bags are all the rage. And Pom Poms! And while I love the looks other Bloggers are rocking, I couldn’t help wanting to put my own spin on a top 2017 trend. And yes, it literally took me minutes. IMG_2385Cute bag I bought at Adirondack Attic for just $12.

IMG_2388Bring on the Pom Poms! I bought 3 boxes of 3 color ways at Kids Made Modern at Target months ago and haven’t stopped playing with them since. This Pom Pom Party box is the perfect way for you to bring your inner DIYer out! And don’t fear the glue gun. Get one. Stat.

IMG_2402Hard to see, but this is my peace sign template. I used an art pencil and dessert bowl to create the circle, then filled in the lines.

IMG_2408And there you go! Your very own custom-designed summer straw bag. I think a heart or multiple little flowers would be cute too. Next DIY?

IMG_2425Our local Ausable River Valley Studio Tour was the perfect venue to show off my latest creation. (And yes, compliments were heard.) My outfit is “shop my closet”: J. Crew C’EST PARFAIT tee, Current/Elliot distressed jeans and silver Birkies.

Apologies for not posting “similar” links, but my Verizon mo-fi is not cooperating. If you’d like to check out some fun options J. Crew has tons of cute tees on super sale now, the Nordstrom Sale has awesome denim options, and Zappos has more Birkies than you could ever want. (I have my eye on navy and white patent.)

And let me know if you have some more pom pom DIY ideas or requests!

Red, White & True Blue

IMG_2055Hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July. We celebrated the day with lots of Adirondack activities. It goes without saying that my outfit of the day (and night) had to be true to this holiday’s color scheme of red, white and blue. While red is not really a color I typically gravitate to, blue and white are. They always feel classic yet fresh to me. And whether it was the flags, the fireworks or even the ketchup at the cookout, I thoroughly enjoyed the pops of red.

DAY: Lunch with friends at Camp Canaras on Upper Saranac Lake.

IMG_2079IMG_2046IMG_2052

Yesterday started off warm and sunny, so white Bermuda shorts were the perfect basic to build my look on. I added a fun, red-white-and-blue floral tee with contrasting long sleeves. (Warm up here is not that warm!) I adore these “Oui/Non” navy espadrilles and wear them as often as I can. (And they were heaven for the plantar fasciitis I’m just getting over in my right foot.) They will be perfect for Bastille Day, too! And how cute is this basket bag? I love the polish the crisp white leather flap and handles add.

We had such a fun afternoon with old friends who invited us to lunch at the lakeside camp they were staying at for the holiday: spectacular Saranac Lake scenery, a classic BBQ with burgers and hot dogs, and ice cream afterwards at Donnelly’s (not to be missed if you are up in North Country!)

NIGHT: Fireworks in Lake Placid

IMG_2133IMG_2111IMG_2169IMG_2229For night, I went with this fun striped-and-destroyed sweatshirt. It ties on the sides, so is a little skin-baring for this 50-something. I just layered a white tank underneath and problem solved. Even though Chris asked if the “holes” came with it (ha ha, honey), this top is cozy and chic all at once. And these jeans? How fun are they! I was inspired to try (and buy) them by The Middle Page. The high waist is super comfy and holds in my middle-aged middle just right. And the flounced hem? Cha cha cha! They are going to see a lot of action this summer, that’s for sure. Keeping the same espadrilles and bag in the mix made finishing off this look simple and simply perfect.

It’s sometimes hard to leave our secret cabin in the woods, but it was lots of fun to see everyone out in Lake Placid enjoying the beautiful night and fantastic fireworks. We ended up at Delta Blue for some live music. Another North Country must!

How about you? How did you wear your “red, white and true blue?”

Slide into Summer

IMG_1344It’s officially Summer! What could be easier than to slide into your next favorite sandal. As you can see from my round-up, I’m mostly going for flats. Which is really how I live. I like to be able to make tracks when I need to, and flat sandals afford me that freedom. That being said, you gotta go for heels every now and then. And my block heel option gives your legs that lift while allowing you true walkability.

Let’s start with these jeweled rubber slides that are right at home at the beach…or on Broadway. They’re another example of Zara’s genius at spotting a runway trend and making it more than affordable. Check out these Prada beauties that started the slide into summer. They’re super fun but…super expensive.

I think these M. Gemi suede slides are  my new summer “go to.” They are so well made I asked myself why did I wait so long to try a pair? If you don’t know M. Gemi, they started as an online store but also now have retail outlets (like Soho, NYC). These sandals are made BY HAND in Italy. The craftsmanship is unbelievable, and so is the comfort. I am in love. The other super cool thing M. Gemi does is include a pre-paid mailable bag to send a pair of shoes you no longer want/need back to them for donation to programs that help women working to right their lives. One in, one out! And for a good cause, too!!

BTW, sorry if my feet look a little pale. These are actually a lovely neutral tone of suede that I think would flatter any skin tone. Not to mention there are about a half a dozen other fun shades to choose from. (I am on the waitlist for metallic blue.)

These block heel beauties are pretty fab. Yes, they’re velvet, which is not exactly a fabric I associate with summer. But the colors and butterfly/lady bug motif are perfect. And they are super comfortable. I will be wearing these in a full outfit post soon. And probably a Fall post, too.

Feathers seem to be this summer’s answer to last fall’s fur. I know these slides might seem a bit wild, but hey, they are just pure fun. I love the fluff factor, love the pink. You might remember them from this post. They are super comfortable and super fun to wear. Sometimes you need a conversation piece…even if it’s on your feet!

So how about you? Are you wearing slides this summer? I’d love to hear about your favorites.

Rubber Slides: Zara (on sale!). And look at what else they have: this, this, and this

Suede Slides: M. Gemi, The Medio

Velvet Slides: Jeffrey Campbell, also love these and these

Feather Slides: ((Steve Madden, sold out) Similar here ($10!) and here (if you can bust the budget!)
