Embroidered and Easygoing

From tops to jeans to bags and shoes, anything embroidered is everywhere this spring. I especially love the colorful, bohemian touch it brings to this fantastic and fantastically affordable blouse. I’ve added it to my Adirondack wardrobe, but it would be equally at home and on trend in the big city.
As the weather warms up, white tees, shirts and blouses are my go-tos when it comes to summer tops. Because I already have quite the collection, anything I add has to have something special about it. Like these beautifully embroidered sleeves and cuffs. Since we were up at the cabin and off for some afternoon errands and shopping, I kept my look low key by pairing this blouse with a pair of favorite frayed hem jeans (also everywhere!), fringed sandals, and a super cute canvas tote. Truth be told, I felt a little bit like I was rocking my inner Joni Mitchell. Now if only I could sing like she did…

A more pared down and natural look is another inspiration I’m embracing from JM and other icons like her. I have to admit, I often miss that “love yourself as you are” attitude of the 60s and 70s. Is that dating me? So be it. A full face of makeup, lash extensions and a gel manicure is definitely not the typical Adirondack beauty regime. And it’s actually nice to look into the mirror and see a fresher, cleaner face smiling back at you. So often, as women we are told to “conceal” or “enhance” our skin and features. And in so doing we often think we don’t look “good” or “beautiful” or even “appropriate” without all that stuff.

Which brings me to the question of what is actually in that foundation…lipstick…blush…? More often than not, some not so nice, even potentially harmful, ingredients. You wouldn’t eat coal tar, but it’s in almost every mascara out there. I wrote about the trend of cleaner, safer beauty in this post. And let’s just say, it’s now less of a trend for me and more of a choice. So I’m also sharing a few new faves I’ve stocked my makeup bag with. And while they’re all easy to wear when I’m in country mode, they’re also well-suited to a polished city look, too.
