Put the Pedal to Plaid

Temps have finally hit the 50s here! Yay!! All the more reason to cozy up to a chunky sweater and my new favorite plaid pants. I’m usually a neutral palette girl, but these red plaid pants just made me smile. Spoiler alert: I have already worn them paired with a black turtleneck and black booties, and gotten some pretty sweet compliments as well. Not to date myself, but these slightly cropped pants reminded me of the “pedal pushers” I wore as a kid in the 60s. Pedal pushers were designed because long pants could get caught in bicycle chains. Today, that was enough for me to pump up the tires on my own bicycle…and get riding.

Yes! I’m not going to take credit for working fashion magic, because this look almost put itself together. I already had the cable sweater (bought at Zara’s end-of-summer rack for under $20!), and it just needed the perfect partner. Cue these plaid pants. Add a cute baker boy cap, white lace-up combat boots, my vintage (yes, that ages me!) Fendi baguette, and this fashionista was ready to hit the streets.

Each piece in this look has so much potential. How about this sweater with a cream or animal silk midi skirt and white boots? How about these pants with a cool black sweater and statement booties?

My super cute white combat boots are just one style from Target’s eminently shop-able Universal Thread collection. They are bold, bright, and so comfortable. I am going to be wearing them A LOT.

According to Vogue.com., the Fendi Baguette is one of the Top 10 most powerful and chic purses. Mine is a fun black popcorn knit. But I can claim no credit. My husband gave it to me for a Christmas present when my millennnials were wee boys. He knew he had a winner when J Lo was buying one too! The Fendi baguette is so named because it fits under your arm like a loaf of French (or Italian!) bread. I’ve put this bag away when it didn’t feel right, and loved rediscovering when it when it was just the ticket. Thanks, Chris! Oh…and if I could buy one now, this would be it!

Most fun thing I got out of this post? A cleaned up bike with air in the tires. Can’t wait to hit the streets of JC, no matter what I’m wearing.
