Spring Fling

This year has been my first full-time, Winter-into-Spring experience down at our new place in Savannah. And I can attest that winter is way more mild than up North and Spring comes way earlier. Today it’s a cool, cloudy 63 degrees, but it was sunny and 85 a few days ago. All of which means it was time to switch out my closet for a seasonal refresh. I do this twice a year and am pretty merciless when it comes to what I keep going forward and what I sell or give away. Last week I dropped off four shopping bags and one big box of clothing, bags and shoes at a consignment shop I recently discovered. I also sent three boxes to my sister and nieces. Now my Spring/Summer wardrobe feels lighter and more focused. And I love that. This shift also made me feel inspired to get back to sharing my thoughts, style, recos and more with you.

I was actually hoping to wear this look for St. Patrick’s Day, but the weather gods had other ideas. It was nippy and windy, so I had to adapt accordingly. What I came up with was not as pretty but a lot more practical.

But back to this look. Pink and green is a classic color combo — think Palm Beach’s Lilly Pulitzer and The Colony Hotel. And while I do have a bit of a preppy pedigree, I embrace my edgier eye when it comes to putting pieces together. I really like the contrast of a feminine sundress and sporty sneakers and made it a go-to option for last year’s trips to France and Italy. It was the perfect way to look and feel cool, while walking miles…and miles!

This sundress is a simple silhouette that gets graphic punch from its striped pattern and streamlined shaping from a smocked waistline. And while you definitely do not have to match your bag and shoes, one pop of pink just didn’t feel like enough. Add a statement necklace and sunnies, and you’re all set!

The Green Truck Pub was the backdrop for this shoot. This casual neighborhood spot wins Best Burger and Fries in Savannah year after year, because they do simple food better than anyone. The kitchen makes their own ketchup, pimento cheese, salad dressings and veggie patties. The bartenders and wait staff are professional and super friendly in that Southern kinda way. They’ve got a nice wine list and great beer options on tap. And when I’m not up for a burger and fries, I love their chicken quesadilla with black bean salsa.

Dress: (Gap, last year) Similar here, here, here (under $25!) and here.

Bag: (Valentino, bought at auction) Also like this, this and this (only $35!).

Shoes: (Adidas) More affordable pink alternatives here, here and here.

Necklace: (old) Loving this, this (50% off) and this.

If you come to Savannah, make sure to stop by Green Truck. They have yummy vegan and gluten-free options, too!
