Hot Chocolate

I bought this silky chocolate brown dress for a summer party, but it’s so delicious I had to find a way to wear it into winter, if not through winter. I love how adding the luxe textures of cashmere, suede, and woven leather cozies up the look — for a feel good, look good outfit.

Let’s start with this dress in, yes, the Color of the Year. Mocha Mousse! Disclaimer: while I may have my own unique vision of fashion and style, I am not in cahoots with Pantone. Per this global trend forecaster, 2025 is all about a “warming, rich brown hue that nurtures with its suggestion of the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort.” I’d also say that an earthy color like brown might bring a refreshing sense of groundedness to how you dress in the days ahead. Cut on the bias to achieve a beautiful drape, this dress flatters your figure with a fitted and flared silhouette. I love unexpected colors like this chocolate brown in summer, especially when I can find ways to keep it working through other seasons. (Just for fun, here’s a pic of me with two of my sons wearing this dress to a post-wedding beach party.) And right about now with the low double digit temps we’re experiencing, I think layering a fitted turtleneck underneath would add even more wearability.

Both the wool-and-cashmere cable knit cardigan and slouchy, knee high suede boots are designer finds (the same one) that I scored at Nordstrom Rack. The new year is a great time to upgrade your closet with amazing deals on quality fall/winter pieces you will wear now and for years to come — without upgrading your budget. I think this sweater was originally priced at well over $400, and I purchased it for under $200. Pretty much the same story for the boots.

My Bottega-inspired woven leather bag looks way more expensive than it actually was. It might be on the smaller side, but it holds most of what you need when you’re out and running around. And this necklace is a fab vintage find that’s the perfect finishing touch. With its neutral coloration, it will be a winner with lots more looks, too.

Will you indulge in some hot chocolate this winter? Let me know!
