Jumping Into Style Like…

Historically, the jumpsuit has been a sign of aviation, spaceships, a more streamlined future. For the last few years, the fashion world has fallen in love with this all-in-one garment. Utilitarian necessity has become a style icon.

Just how has the jumpsuit gotten its staying power from? Well, the simplest answer is they’re convenient. Pull on a jumpsuit, and you don’t have to agonize over what top to pair with which pants. Jumpsuits are innately versatile, too. They create a blank canvas for the styling details that will literally turn an item from single-use to multi-functional.

Let’s take a look back at how this fashion phenom first got its foothold. When wars and global conflicts gripped the world, they also freed women from the conventional roles they had always known. While men battled on the frontlines, women were suddenly in demand in hospitals, factories, transportation. And they couldn’t get this work done in corsets and skirts!

With its gender-free silhouette and rebellious attitude, the jumpsuit brought freedom of movement and empowerment to the world of music as well. From Elvis to Studio 54 to Abba to David Bowie, the jumpsuit says I can do anything. And so you can.

Now for the details: this super cute and comfy linen jumpsuit popped up in my Insta feed. It’s from Mate The Label, a female-founded, LA-based brand that believes how clothes are made changes the earth we walk on, the air we breathe. That what we wear impacts our wellness. Sustainably made with non-toxic, natural, and organic materials, their best sellers are style with a conscience. Their mission is to provide people everywhere with essentials that are clean from seed to skin. Now that the weather is cooling off, I’m seriously considering the long-sleeved version in black. And looking ahead to next summer, there’s an adorable romper version.

For this casual outfit, I went with camo and neutral touches — ball cap, crossbody bag and sneaker — from a trio of my favorite names. But how cool would this jumpsuit look with pops of black? Next time!

How about you…will you be jumping into this trend?
