My Biggest Shopping Tip Ever!

Four weeks ago, Chris and I had enough of chilly, grey March and decided a road trip to Florida was our escape plan. (More on that to follow!) The whole time we were gone, my Jersey City and NYC friends and family were messaging me about the horrible, rainy cold weather. Truth be told, an actual cold front took over the first few days of our trip as well. One thing I can say is that I really, really wished I had this cozy quilted coat with me! Which brings me to the biggest shopping tip I have honed over years of fashion fandom. And that is…shop off season, shop the sales! Now more than ever!! You might not get the immediate gratification of a fabulous new seasonal addition to your closet, but you will score some serious wardrobe options to look forward to.

So, how does this big tip work? It means as one season ends, and before you shop for the next, you hit up the top designer fashion sites for amazing wardrobe additions you won’t regret, nor will your bank account. My top picks any time of the year are: The Outnet.com, Saks Off Fifth, The Real Real, and Nordstrom Rack. At any time, you can score something super special (and formerly pricey!) at up to 70%.

Coat: Everlane (also in covetable camo and classic navy combos), now at 30% off. I figure you can always use this coat as a blanket or roll it up and use it as a pillow.

Sweater: BA&SH in army green and beige, 45% – 55% off. So cute!

Jeans: Pilcro (old) but loving this on-sale option and these awesome overalls, too.

Cap: From the coolest, one-of-a-kind, self taught JC artist Anthony Boone! Check out his art!! Check out his BooneArtLife clothing line!!!

Sneakers: Golden Goose, old sale score. I typically treat myself to one pair (or two but no more!) of designer sneakers a year, since given the shift in fashion to a more casual attitude is here to stay. And shoes always make a statement, even with dresses or skirts. Nordstrom Rack is a great site to stalk for bargains. But right now, I’m loving this pair!

Bag: Vintage Louis Vuitton, The RealReal.

Happy smart shopping!

  1. I so agree! Another trick if you buy full price is to buy super classic and take super good care of your purchases. A good Dry Cleaner can be your best friend! And that’s a tip for everyone!

  2. Great tip to check out the going out of season sales right now!

On another note, I bought an Easter dress this week—cause that’s what we do in the South 😉 and I brought it home wondering how MP would style it! Lol

Thanks for the post! Love seeing how you put things together!

    1. Thanks, Elisa. Great tip on the dry cleaning. The same goes for hand washing delicates like cashmere sweaters and regular footwear maintenance at your local shoe repair. I love Leather Spa.
