Feeling Pop Art-ish

Well this was one of my more inventive blog shoots. My photog/creative partner Kristin and I had planned a very ambitious day. After capturing 3 looks, we took a (very) late lunch. And in my opinion, a well-deserved break. But…that meant we ended up “chasing daylight” for my last look. It got dark very fast, so we had to get inventive. Kristin backed her car up, so she could shine her brights at this amazing mural. And we just decided to go for it. I’ll admit the look is different from most of my blog shoots, but we both loved the whole vibe. Hope you do too!

So I know I just posted about a closet clean-out, but I don’t want you to think I never make a wardrobe purchase that’s just for fun. Like this fab, checked faux fur jacket. Sure, it makes a pop art-ish, graphic statement. But it’s also versatile, because it’s black and white and will go with so many outfit combinations. And….it’s super soft, super cozy, and super affordable.

I’ve been on the hunt for a classic black dress with a twist, so I’m test driving this dress for now. It’s a good currently wearing option, but I also think it will be great in warmer weather with sandals and a straw bag. What do you think? The rest of my outfit includes “shop my closet” earrings, boots, bag and tights.

That is the one big take away of any black-and-white look. All the pieces look great together, but each piece offers you so many other wearable options. And that’s probably why a big chunk of my wardrobe is black or white. It’s a no-brainer way to hold onto classic pieces, while adding some fresh pops here and there.

Jacket: (H&M, sold out) but how covetable is this, this and this (full length coat!).

Dress: (H&M, now under $40!) Also love this on-sale designer option.

Bag: Telfar (Support black-owned businesses!)

Boots: (Coach, old) But love this, this (under $100) and this (bejeweled and on sale!).

Earrings: (Lele Sadoughi, old) Current LS version here and super cute Etsy version here.

Tights: Could not survive cold weather without these! Super opaque, super shaping!!

  1. Love all the black and white against the colorful mural. And brilliant to use the car headlights for a nice warm light to pop everything and create shadows to enhance every look. That’s a great black dress – very floaty and comfortable. Can NEVER go wrong with black and white in a wardrobe!

    1. Love your artistic POV! Thank you!! Necessity was the mother of invention this time around, though we were a bit worried about the results. All in all, it was actually fun to try something different.

  2. What a beautiful contrasting look! If you’ve got the passion, you’ve got the fashion. Hat’s off to art deco with a nod to classic floral luxe!
