Spring is still trying to “spring” here in Jersey City. One day will be warm and sunny, the next grey and chilly. I guess this look is my way of saying “C’mon already!”
My style is typically anything but “flowery.” On any given day, a tailored blazer, tee and jeans would be a go-to combo. But I think this mix of unexpected brights, mixed patterns and nude nuances is a winning one. Sometimes you just need to step out of your comfort zone!
This eye-catching jacket started it all. A classic brocade in an almost neon palette and sharp tailoring elevate it into modern, and yes “mood-altering,” statement piece. The sweater shell and jeans are two more basics that have their style quotient upped by color and detail, too. Nude shoes, from pumps to flats, are a neutral that’s never boring. Plus they elongate the leg. These heels have a slight platform and under 3″ heels, so they are as walkable as they are wearable.
Side note: Chris and I made a Happy Hour stop on the way home after shooting these pics, and both young hipster bartenders said “I don’t normally like flowery things, but I love that jacket.” Score one for the 50+ crew!
Jacket: (old, Stella McCartney) but love this bomber and this cropped one
Top: (old, J. Crew) but I just bought this and love this
Jeans: Zara! Love these and these and these, too. (Note: Zara keeps it coming in terms of their denim, but I find their jeans run small. I typically go up one size. Plus the new mid-rise silhouettes are also more forgiving and comfortable.)
Pumps: (old, Stuart Weitzman) but these block heels and these sandals are both great.
