Birds of a Feather

I know I’ve been hyping stripes this summer, but I’ve gotta give it up to the pure fashion fun of feathers too. They’re what take this slouchy graphic top from comfy to full-on chic. And a top this bold deserves the perfect backdrop. Luckily Jersey City is full of the most colorful and creative street art, so I think we succeeded on that front. Come take a walk on the wild side with me…

First of all, this top is one size fits all, which I was a little skeptical about. But it fit just fine, especially with a little “blogger tuck” into my jeans. I really think a full range of sizes would do just fine with it. And while no longer available in this color combo, it’s available in two other fabulous options and it’s also on major sale! As in more than 50% off!! Here, I paired it with zippered white skinnies. Perfect for brunch or GNO. Pair it with black skinnies, and you’re all set for Date Night. Or if you are in Advertising like I am…wear this look to work.

To finish off my look, I kept to a nothing-beats-black palette: statement sunnies (as seen here and here), bold tassel earrings (as seen here and here), a surprisingly practical mini-bucket bag that holds your phone, mini brush, coin purse, lipstick, keys (as seen here and here) and fringed (like feathers!) mules with a walkable block heel (as seen here). All of which proves, you can (and should!) shop your closet. Especially if you shop with fashion versatility and longevity in mind.

This post was part of an all-day shoot with my über-talented friend and former/first choice Art Director partner, Kristin Moore-Gantz. When we work together, it’s not work! (See the cute video below.) And might even end with a glass of rosé…or two. Cheers to that.

Top: (Pello Bello, sold out in black/white/blue) But available in this and this combination.

Jeans: (Target, sold out) but another affordable alternative here and a spurge alternative here.

Sunnies: (Raen, sold out) but love this very affordable cat eye version and this pair, too!

Earrings: (Anthropologie)

Bag: (Simon Miller, definitely a splurge but now on sale!) More affordable super cute straw alternative here and fun, fringe-y version here.

Shoes: (Madewell, old) Similar (and on sale!) here and oooh-la-la here (also on sale!).

  1. Feathers! How unique and fun! Might have to go for this in the black/white stripe with the pink feather cuffs!
