As promised, here’s my Part 2 take on wearing the gingham pieces from this post. For these two looks, I’ve notched it down to a more casual level and made the gingham skirt and gingham top each the focal point. It was a fun experiment for me, because it really proved that while on trend, these statement pieces can stand on their own, even as they add some graphic punch and versatility to my wardrobe. Check. And checkmate.
GINHAM SKIRT + TEE + SANDALS + SEE-THROUGH GINGHAM BAG
GINGHAM TOP + JEANS + SANDALS + SEE-THROUGH GINGHAM BAG
In keeping my shopping impulses somewhat in check (pun intended), I did shop my closet for each of these gingham-focused looks. And while I know that sometimes means an exact item is no longer easily available (like this skirt…sorry!), I think I’ve come up with alternatives that will definitely tempt you. Even better, some items are now on sale.
For my Gingham Skirt Look, I went with a “statement” tee that was prescient to July 4th, not to mention Bastille Day. Or the world in general! But a black or white tank would look sleek and offer an even cooler option when we get hit with our next heatwave. My sandals are from a few summers ago, but toe ring styles are back in a big way. And while see-through totes first made fashion waves at the NYFS Spring shows, they are now officially a summer 2018 must-have. This one features a super cute (removable) gingham insert, which obviously made it the perfect accessory.
For my Gingham Top Look, I paired it with a favorite pair of fringe-hem jeans. I chose blue this time around, but I know this top would look equally great when paired with white or black jeans, a denim skirt or denim shorts. Or pretty much anything! No need to change out my accessories, because they work just as well with this outfit. If you have a summer trip planned, these pieces could be the base for a great travel wardrobe that’s long on versatility…and fun.
