When I say the day we shot this post was hotter than Hades, I’m not kidding. The entire Northeast was experiencing an epic heatwave that had all of us in meltdown mode. So pulling together this look was more about staying cool than looking cool. I did my best to achieve both.

Black and blue might not be an obvious warm-weather color combo, but it’s become one of my faves. And this cotton poplin halter top is definitely channeling summer vibes. The shirred neckline and front and back pleating are little details that make the difference. Since I went for a fitted silhouette on top, I decided loose, flowy pants were the perfect counterbalance. Not to mention a breezy choice. They may be giving PJ comfort and ease, but the batik-inspired print elevates their pull-on style — making them the perfect dress up or dress down option. I think they look great paired with black, but white, grey or even an unexpected summer bright would look more than right, too.

When it came to accessories, I streamlined my picks and went with a chunky sailor knot bracelet, a rattan mini bag and vacay-centric slides. Simple but chic.
