Sequin Season

‘Tis the season to sparkle, right? While I’m not one to say no to some shimmer and shine any time, it does feel most appropriate for the days ahead. Especially for New Year’s Eve! With a scene-stealing faux fur jacket like this one, it might be hard to take in just how stunning this skirt is. But trust me, it’s one for the books. And your wardrobe.

I’m writing this post from sunny Los Angeles, where we’re spending Christmas. So it’s hard to remember just how freezing it was when we shot these images. It was so cold, I forgot to take this fantastic faux fur jacket off and show off my cold-shoulder cashmere sweater, so you’ll just have to use your imagination.

But first, this sequin skirt! I have to give credit to the fashion blog Le Catch for first putting it on my fashion radar. (This is one of my favorite blogs for high-and-low style finds if you want to add it to your feed.) To me, it’s simply the perfect mix of sequined razzle dazzle and pencil skirt sophistication. And it’s priced to fit almost any budget. Isn’t the fringe fun? I am going to be rocking this from NYE on out. (Can’t you just see this skirt with a cool graphic tee and sandals this coming summer?) For this look, I paired it with the previously mentioned black cashmere turtleneck. The unseen cold-shoulder silhouette (seen here!) adds some skin-baring sizzle while keeping you cozy too. Bought over a year ago, this sweater was a fantastic investment piece I wear with everything.

Now for THIS COAT. I mean, really! While I own a few other faux fur pieces, they fall more into the neutral zone (as seen here and here.) This is a faux fur that’s all about standing out. Its bight green color is my kind of irreverent and irresistible. And can we talk about cozy? Love the hand-warming patch pockets, oversized collar, and bold zip close. I’d be remiss if I didn’t credit So Susie (another super fun blog I follow) for being the first to showcase this showstopper.

As for accessories, while I kept to a palette of black, each piece has its own little pop of shine — from the gems on the beret to the shimmery butterflies on this velvet clutch to the metallic studs on my go-to Rockstud pumps.

I am having so much fun visiting with my sons Spencer and Chanler who now live and work in Los Angeles. I’ve seen their uber-cool offices and new apartments and am just so proud of the lives they’re both building for themselves. Our oldest son Pierre will be arriving in a few days to join his girlfriend April down in Seal Beach. We’ll be celebrating Christmas with her family and couldn’t be more excited. I’ve also been able to schedule in some delightfully delicious lunches, drinks and dinners with LA friends. Because we’re (thankfully) beyond the Christmas lists of must-have-but-sold-out toys, video games, etc… I was able to box up and ship fun stocking stuffers and gifts a few weeks ago — all labeled DO NOT OPEN UNTIL XMAS! Yes, Chris (aka Father Christmas) will be bringing his checkbook, but we’re making this a holiday season where we focus on “doing,” not consuming (Thank you Keep It Chic!). And I have to say it’s turned feeling stressed into feeling very, very blessed.

I’m hoping to get a few more posts in before year’s end, but I also want to take a break — as I’m sure you do, too. Wishing you all the happiest of days ahead, however you choose to celebrate the holidays!

    1. Thank you so much, Jenifer! While I might take a break from sequins for the next month or so, I’m definitely going to wear that skirt all through next summer!!
