The March weather here has been seesawing from temptingly Spring-like to blustery and snowy. Which means it’s too soon to pack away my sweaters, boots and puffers. So in an effort to fight off a bit of fashion malaise, when I spied this cozy plaid coat on sale I knew it was the perfect piece to fill out my outerwear wardrobe. To wear now, to look forward to wearing next year.
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve worn a tailored wool coat, let alone owned one. So when this eye-catching option appeared on my sale radar, I felt pretty confident about making it mine. But first it had to meet my current smart shopping criteria. In addition to being versatile in style and color palette, it came in with an affordable under $200 price tag. Then I let it sit in my virtual shopping cart for at least 48 hours. I always tell myself that if an item is still available and I truly not just need it but love it, then I can at least order it and try it on IRL. Finally, if it actually lives up to my expectations, then it’s a keeper. If not, it goes straight back.
I shopped my closet to complete this look with pieces I’m excited about wearing and that were going to keep me warm. A chunky cable cardigan and tailored jeans kicked it all off — both great wardrobe adds if you don’t already own them. Then I reached for one of my most favorite and oft-worn booties (seen here, here and here) and a fun, fringed bag that exudes all-season appeal. You will definitely be seeing it again (and again) in some upcoming Spring and Summer posts.
