Mocha Chocolata Ya Ya

Another timeless trend that emerged during this cycle of Fashion Weeks was a love for the color brown in its entire spectrum — from dark chocolate to mocha to buttery honey to creamy camel. I’ve always been drawn to this calming, grounded palette, so I’m pretty pleased to see it come around once again.

Why is brown so on trend in fashion now? Once considered utilitarian, unsophisticated, even dull — especially when compared with other neutrals like black, grey and navy — brown is having a real time renaissance. Is it a reflection of our current search for minimalism, sustainability, and natural beauty. It is for me.

Because brown is such a subtle color, it’s easy to seamlessly mix multiple shades in one head-to-toe outfit. Or simply add one piece to a favorite outfit you might be a bit bored with. And when Spring finally bursts through, I can’t wait to wear brown with brighter shades of purple, pink, orange and green. The way I see it, the options are almost limitless.

How about you? Are you down for brown??

Sweater: (Rag & Bone, 50% off plus an extra 15% with code FIRST15 @ The Outnet. Hoodies look great layered under a jacket, too.)

Skirt: (Banana Republic, vegan leather, 20% off plus extra 20% off at checkout. At 5′ 8″ I went for Tall to get the added length.)

Belt: (Telfar, lots of colors)

Bag: (Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse, old from The RealReal, extra 20% with code REAL — now waitlisted for almost $1000! Talk about investment dressing!! Think I paid @ $200 back in 2005…)

Flats: (Everlane) Other current faves here (under $80) and here.

  1. Ah, earth tones…always soothing and easy on the eyes. The best thing about all neutrals is that they are always in style!
