Not So Plain Vanilla

It’s about this time of year that as much as I rely on black pieces as the foundation to my winter wardrobe, I’m also pretty tired of wearing black, not to mention seeing it on everyone else. But if I’m going to shop for something new, it has to have staying power beyond the here and now. And if I can score it on sale, it’s a done deal.

So what’s the polar opposite of black on the fashion spectrum? White. Not summer bright white, but a softer, creamier hue. And while I wouldn’t wear a turtleneck sweater past the end of March, every other piece in this look has season-less longevity.

When it comes to sweaters, cashmere is a classic. And because it’s so soft and light, it makes the transition into spring and even cooler summer nights with ease. When it comes to a motif, I’m a sucker for skulls. Not sure why. A rocker chick alter ego? Whatever the reason, when I spy something that combines both, and is on sale, it’s going into my shopping cart for sure. I promise I have worn this sweater at least once a week since I purchased it and if I do get tired of seeing it my city wardrobe, it will be a great addition to my Adirondack one.

Let’s take a moment to ooh and ah over this fluid and flattering vegan leather skirt — again scored on sale. It’s soooo good I bought it in chocolate, too. (Stay tuned for that post.) I can see it with a black top and boots as well. And once temps warm up, I plan to pair it with a tee and sneakers or sandals — depending on the occasion. One caveat, the waistband is fitted so you may want to size up. (I did!) I also went for it in Tall, because I find the longer length more versatile for my body type. And…it’s machine washable and safe to iron on low. Yay.

When it came to accessorizing, I decided to stick with an overall pale palette. This bracelet bag (seen here in glamping casual) and cut-out boots (seen here and here) were the obvious contenders. Again, both of these investment items will follow me well into spring. And the years ahead.

How do you feel about winter whites? So right? Or not for me? Let me know!

Sweater: (360 Cashmere, almost sold out, currently available here and here.) Similar vibe here (think pink!) and here (blue and white multicolor — have my eye on this one).

Skirt: (Banana Republic Factory, 40% off with an extra 20% off at checkout, also in chocolate brown and black, and available in Petite/Regular/Tall). If you’re up for a mini, this one is under $55. And this sporty, pull-on version is super fun.

Bag: (Staud, 30% off) Love this convertible “bean” style (lots of colors) and this slouchy shoulder bag in Italian leather and under $100!

Boots: (Coach, old but currently available restored). Similar here (under $45) and here (70% off).
