Not Your Grandma’s Crochet

When you think of crochet does your grandma’s favorite hobby come to mind? That was then. Now, the newest knits are more refined, less homespun. Making today’s crochet a cult favorite. From Gen Zers to celebrities to yours truly, everyone seems to have a soft spot for this trans-seasonal trend. Yes, crochet is cool again.

The base for this look is pretty basic — a white tee and white jeans. I did go for a more substantial pima cotton for the tee and a slightly flared and frayed hem in my jeans — just to change it up a bit. But the monochrome palette was a deliberate decision, because I wanted to showcase this super cute crochet sweater. And I’m not alone. Some of the biggest fashion designers and brands are incorporating crochet into their summer collections in big and small ways. From bucket hats to market bags to dresses, and even shoes, crochet is making a carefree summer statement. I for one find crochet’s sweet chic an instant mood elevator. And that feels good.

Sweater: (Zara, sold out) But love this, this, and this!

Other crochet finds: Bucket Hat, Dress (40% off), Bag (in 3 cute styles), Slides, and classic granny square blanket.

Tee: (Banana Republic) I’ve also stocked up on this (love it in so many colors!) and this (a great cotton basic under $20).

Jeans: (Mother, a fave brand that’s worth the investment price tag. Fit Tip: when it comes to white I always go up a size.) Also love this ecru pair under $90.

Sneakers: (Veja, similar here.)

Bag: (Zara)

Necklace: (vintage from houseofterrance.com)

  1. Okay, someone has to say it: you’ve got me hooked on crochet (pun intended)!
But I’ll tell you why I like it for summer, it’s got an open weave that not only adds a layer of texture, it also lets us breathe a little easier on hot days.
    Hooray for crochet!
