Hey there. Happy New Year, and wow, the first week of January is almost over. Did you make a resolution…or two? And are you keeping them? Or is it too soon to even ask? OK, enough with the questions. I didn’t make a formal list, but one thing I’m focusing on is making 2020 a year of less holding back, more adventure. And my Wild At Heart t-shirt is just my own personal reminder to do just that. And more.
As this new year kicks off, another of my goals is to continue to pare down my closet and stick to a minimalist approach to shopping. But let’s be real. That doesn’t mean zero shopping. What fun is that. What is allowed? Pieces I can, but more importantly, will wear for the long haul. And if I (and you!) can score them on sale, all the better.
Statement Tee
I had been wanting anything Anine Bing, but especially a t-shirt, ever since this LA-based brand came onto the fashion scene. And a timely Nordstrom gift card was just the ticket. I guess it was the the writer in me that finally went for this vintage version emblazoned with a sassy slogan to live by.
A bit about Bing. Born in Denmark, raised in Sweden, Anine has lived and worked in London, Stockholm, Los Angeles, Belgium and Johannesburg. She began modeling at 15 and launched her eponymous label in 2012. To quote Anine: “My aim is that regardless if you are a mom, a model, a lawyer or a teacher, you should be able to find cool and suitable pieces.” I’ve now got my eye on one of her silk skirts. If you don’t know Anine Bing, you need to.
Plush & Pleather
This soft, plush sherpa jacket was just too cozy and cute to resist. It’s plenty warm on its own but also roomy enough to layer a chunky sweater underneath. Plus I love all the pockets — two chest pockets with button-flap closures and two angled welt pockets. Lots of shoppers must have felt the same way about it, because it’s almost sold out. So…I’ve linked some equally adorable alternatives.
The counterpoint to plush? How about sleek pleather leggings with the polish and structure of your favorite pants. Designed in luxe, black vegan leather, they’re tailored with darts at the back for a figure-flattering fit. Best of all, these leggings are a high style wardrobe addition that comes in under $100.
Not So Basic Black Accessories
I shopped my closet for this embellished beret (also seen here), as well as my beloved Fendi Baguette (seen here and here). Since these are oldies but goodies, I’ve linked some current faves for you to check out. Winter has not exactly been making its presence known, so these Nordic-style boots have not yet been out and about as much the should be. They’re a fresh, fun, furry version of the classic hiking boot with faux shearling lining and real shearling cuff. And even come with two sets of laces — one that’s tonal and one that’s more colorful. So bring on the snow already!
