One Last Look at Summer

With a full Harvest Moon high in the sky, Fall is fast upon us. But with temps staying in the mid 70s, it’s going to be hard to let go of Summer. Before we bundle up, I wanted to share one last look that was inspired by one of my favorite warm weather dresses. This one is all about eyelet — a pretty, versatile, durable lace fabric with a long history. A history where beauty and toughness meet in the best way possible. Can you tell I love eyelet?

Eyelet fabrics are traditionally made of cotton, imparting a light and lacy feel. Eyelet is made by creating holes in a fabric medium. Each hole is edged using a buttonhole stitch. The holes are precisely sized and situated to create a  floral or abstract pattern. As you can see from this post and this post, I do have an eye for eyelet!

With my new focus on year-round wearability, in the days ahead I will pair this dress with a chunky cardigan or jean jacket. And swap out this cute straw clutch for a leather bag. I think the belt and loafers have at least another month or more of mileage, so I will be working them into a lot of other looks as well.

The belt is from Telfar, the hot hot hot brand whose bag I featured in this post. The story of Telfar Clemens is truly amazing and inspiring. In 2020 when McKinsey predicted the fashion industry would lose 90% of its business, Telfar had their best year ever. Oprah chose the brand’s vegan shopper as one of her “favorite things.” Mr. Clemens won a Council of Fashion Designers of America Award for best accessories, a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for fashion design, was named the GQ Designer of the Year, and received the PETA award for most wanted handbags. So my advice is run, don’t walk to check out Telfar. It’s the epitome of urban chic and affordable luxe. You will love!

My loafers are from Vivaia, a footwear brand founded with the mission to create stylish and sustainable shoes that are eco-friendly, super comfortable, and just really, really stylish. Using recylced materials and 3D technology, the talented Vivaia team has established a zero-waste process that results in the ultimate combination of comfort, function, and flair. And they’re washable! A perfect addition to your travel and life? Yes, yes, yes.

How are you feeling about saying goodbye to Summer and hello to Fall? I think I’m almost ready…

  1. You look great, MP!
    Love the accessories, too.
Will check J. Crew to see if ears come as clip-ons.
Thank you for the info on eyelet … had no idea!
Here, in Houston, it is summer 4 seasons a year: cold summer, warm summer, hot summer, cool summer so my wardrobe is a bit more homogenated but I will be looking forward to memories of Fall … LOL!
Looking forward to your next post already!!!

  2. Not just an eye for eyelet, but for all things making the everyday extraordinary! Seems simple but it’s not…
