Style in the Wild

This look is a great example of how pieces that don’t go together in an obvious way come together perfectly. From newest to oldest, I shopped my closet for everything. Despite it being a spontaneous splurge, my bag is truly a beloved collectible at this point. In fact, I just packed it for our recent trip to the UK and got so many positive comments about it. I also packed this jacket, dress, belt and sneakers, too. And they all helped bring a versatile style spark to my limited travel wardrobe.

On the Road Again…Part 3

While it’s always fun to revisit favorite places, it’s pretty special to experience someplace new. And when that place is Charleston, you are one lucky traveler. A South Carolina port city founded in 1670, Charleston is defined by its cobblestone streets, (somewhat controversial) horse-drawn carriages, and pastel antebellum houses — particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. It’s a city made for walking…and walking.

Freezy, Breezy Spring Blues

The calendar may say April 18th, but the weather gods say we have to wait a little longer for the warm, sunny days we’re all craving. In the meantime, in Jersey City and environs, we’re facing a Nor’easter, plunging temperatures, and possible flooding. Up at our Adirondack cabin, the skiers are celebrating the 6-8 inches of snow that are expected. So until balmier days settle in FOR REAL, I’ll be layering on as many versatile options as I can find in my closet.

Covid Closet Cleanout

Between family and friends, everyone I know and care about is coming down with Covid or recovering from it. While it’s scary, this wave is nowhere near as terrifying as our world was a year ago — before we all could get vaccinated. Spoiler alert: if you’re Anti-Vax, stop reading now. And I guess, if you want to take it further, stop following me. Because while I’m concerned about becoming infected this time around, I trust the science that’s given us all a weapon against this killer Pandemic. If you’ve hesitated, please, please, please get vaccinated. And if you are vaxed, don’t skip that booster! And if you’re vaxed, boosted and bored, think about a closet cleanout.

Cloud Cover

Even though we are enjoying an unseasonably warm Fall, it’s never too soon to assess your coat closet and see what you’re missing. I’ll be honest…I’m really not missing a puffer jacket, but the one I own is black. A classic for sure, but sometimes you just need something a little more unexpected. And fun. Enter Zerina Akers and her latest Icons of Style x Macy’s Collab. As a stylist to the stars, Zerina’s credentials are sky high. And this cloud printed puffer is the perfect example of her signature imaginative chic.

Star Powered Suiting

It has been my professional pleasure and honor (yes indeed!) to work with — the one, the only, stylist to the stars — Zerina Akers on some amazing broadcast and digital projects. Zerina is so talented and professional but also so fun, humble, beautiful, and smart. Hanging out on set with her — even if we had to power through a 14-hour day — was always the best experience. So when she launched her latest Icons of Style collab with Macy’s, I was beyond excited. Kudos to Macy’s for working with these five Black visionaries to move the world of fashion forward. I’m just happy I can play a small part in this amazing, empowering movement. Brava, Zerina!

All the Fall Cozies: Look #3

Is there anything cozier than a quilt? Well, a quilt-patterned jacket comes pretty close. I love how the mixed prints and colors create a striking patchwork design. Maybe it’s my 1960s Greenwich Village childhood, but I’ve always been partial to modern pieces with a retro vibe. This puffer jacket delivers all the feels..and then some.

All the Fall Cozies: Look #2

Coming your way…more of my Fall faves. As in key pieces you can layer your way, wear every day. FYI, this was my first time shooting a post solo with my new tripod and remote. It’s pretty funny, and fun, to be on top of a mountain and posing for pics. Not sure what Bowie thought about the whole thing. He was probably more interested in the chipmunks!

One Last Look at Summer

With a full Harvest Moon high in the sky, Fall is fast upon us. But with temps staying in the mid 70s, it’s going to be hard to let go of Summer. Before we bundle up, I wanted to share one last look that was inspired by one of my favorite warm weather dresses. This one is all about eyelet — a pretty, versatile, durable lace fabric with a long history. A history where beauty and toughness meet in the best way possible. Can you tell I love eyelet?
