Looking Back, Looking Ahead

How was your first week of 2023? Mine was both a mental and physical transition from last year into this new one. In the quiet moments, I reflected on what did and did not happen in 2022, but also what I made happen and did not make happen. Food for thought and fuel to do more, see more, be more in the 365 days ahead.

West Dressed

It’s been a little over six weeks since I got back from my late October/early November trip. First stop was the Palm Beach wedding I featured in my last post. Then I flew out to LA for a few days to visit our youngest son and his girlfriend, as I had yet to see their adorable apartment in person. Next up? A long-planned trip to Joshua Tree and Palm Springs with a group of college girlfriends.

Come Fly With Me

The feather-trimmed shirt I featured in my last post was so fabulous that I had to get it in white as well. Because every wardrobe needs a good white shirt or two, this wasn’t an excessive splurge. I will resell or donate an older version and let this one add a fresh flourish to everything from the corduroy jeans I teamed it up with here to dark denims or a midi skirt. I think the cuffs look so eye-catching fluffing out from the blazer, too.

Birds of a Feather

Post after post, I try to feature sensible shopping, inventive wardrobe rotation, and purposeful closet purging. But sometimes a girl has to fall for a fashion flight of fancy and splurge on something she doesn’t actually need but truly (truly) covets. Like this feathery blue shirt. And it was easy and inspiring to build a brand new look around it — with mostly pieces I already own.

Falling Forward

I’m writing this post from our beach house rental, where it’s a breezy but very sunny 88 degrees. Call it end-of-summer denial, but I’m finding it hard to believe that in another month or so most of us will be unpacking our cashmere sweaters, booties and more. Not to mention wearing them! So I thought this might be a good time to share some of my personal “get prepped” wardrobe tips and tricks.

Matchy, Not Matchy

There’s no denying the pulled-together ease a stylish two-piece set brings to your wardrobe. Of course the matching set is not a new fashion concept. Think Coco Chanel’s timelessly aspirational coordinated jackets and skirts. How about Cher’s head-to-toe matching outfits in “Clueless.” But…what happens when you go beyond “matchy” to “not matchy?” Let’s find out!

Let’s Go Glamping!

If you’ve been following the blog for awhile and seen pics of our cabin and Adirondack activities, you already know I’m a big fan of the great outdoors. In truth, I haven’t been camping since my early 20s. Like lots of lucky kids (especially city ones), I spent many happy weeks away at summer camp. And this coming Fall, I will be “glamping” with a group of girlfriends in airstream campers at Joshua Tree. But in the meantime, I’ve got the perfect getaway right in my Jersey City neighborhood!
